GHOSTBUSTER TERMS

While reviewing this series there are going to be some terms commonly used throughout that I figured it would help for any reader to be familiar with.

THE FIREHOUSE: The headquarters of the Ghostbusters.  It was an old fire station that they brought on sale. The Ghostbusters use their headquarters as an all-purpose building.  It serves as their offices where all their paperwork and computers are kept.  It is also the place where they meet clients.  All their ghostbusting equipment, uniforms, and their vehicles are stored on-site.  It also holds their containment unit where they imprison all their captured ghosts. There is also living quarters and the Ghostbusters themselves use it as their primary residence.  In the movie this make sense because the individual ghostbusters spend all their money on establishing the business and have nowhere else to stay.  By the show it gets kind of weird, you think they would get their own apartments or something.  Especially, Peter and Winston, seeing as Peter attempts to have a social life and Winston isn’t weird like Egon and Ray are.

ECTOPLASM: Substance that ghosts are made of and give off.

Ectoplasm may be mistaken for really nasty snot
ECTO 1: The Ecto 1 is the Ghostbusters' car that serves as their main vehicle.  The car was a former hearse.  The Ghostbusters painted it white and placed sirens on it.  The rear where the coffins used to go is where they store their equipment for transport.

ECTO 2: The Ecto 2 is their helicopter that they use when necessary. (Only used in the animated series.)

Now they should have used this at least once in the film
PROTON PACK: The Ghostbusters primary weapon.  It produces energy that allows the user to catch and temporarily hold a ghost.

PARTICLE THROWER: Also known as a Proton gun, it is the targeting and firing portion of the proton pack.  (It’s the gun part)

best sound ever
P.K.E. METER: Primary tracking device used by the Ghostbuster to detect ghosts, monitor the containment unit, and get general information about a ghost and its abilities.

TRAP: The traps are used to contain the ghosts after they are captured using the particle thrower of the proton pack.  Sometimes they can be used catch a ghost by themselves if the ghost files over it.  Once caught a ghost will stay in there until it is released, the trap runs out of power and it escapes, or (most commonly) the ghost is put into the containment unit.

ECTO GOGGLES: Eye where that allows the wearer to see invisible ghosts and other phenomena.

CONTAINMENT UNIT: Is the storage unit for all their captured ghosts, it is a ghost prison where the ghosts are all locked up right in same place.  If the unit is ever breached then all the ghosts escape. Its kind of an all the eggs in one basket kind of deal.
