Summary: Janine
and Louis are going shopping with Slimer for Janine’s birthday and the two
humans enter an elevator that turns out not to be an elevator. Slimer tries to save them but the two
Ghostbuster employees have been kidnapped.
Slimer flies home to the firehouse and tells the Ghostbusters. As Slimer finishes his story a message
appears on their computer. A top
Gangster Ghost, named Poso, wants the Ghostbusters to turn over their operation to him by
midnight or they will never see Janine or Louis again.
Poso seeks to be the Ghostfather |
The
Ghostbusters are confused because they don’t why a ghost would want to run the
Ghostbusters operation. They have one
ghost, named Shifter, in the Containment Unit who use to work for Poso so they send Slimer into the Containment Unit to get him.
Once Shifter is out he tells the Ghostbusters that Poso wants to become the
top ghostfather and with the Ghostbusters’ technology he would be able to force
other ghosts to his will.
Shifter, Peter's new partner |
They
make an agreement with Shifter that if he helps them get Janine and Louis back
they will free him. He agrees but the
Ghostbusters still don’t trust him. Egon creates a type of collar device that can
recall Shifter as they wish. They cover
Peter with the positive psychokinetic slime from Ghostbusters
II and he partners with Shifter to go to the ghost town of Jersey. Ray and Winston follow along in Ecto-2, while Egon stays at the station to guard it.
Entering the ghost town. |
Running into some wise ghost. |
Shifter
tries to ditch Peter a few times but rescues him from the ghost jail that Poso’s
ghosts placed him in. Some of Poso’s agents went to
the firehouse to get the ghostbuster gear only to be trapped by Egon.
Peter and Shifter were able to find where the Ghostbusters' employees were hidden and
trap Poso at the same time using the device that was used on Shifter. At the end, Peter is having a hard time with
psychokinetic slime but everything else is okay.
Poso channleing his inner Jabba the Hut |
My Take: The idea
of a mobster ghost who wants to get his hands on the Ghostbusters operation
because of the power that it would give him amongst other ghosts is a very good
concept. The only change that I would
personally make to it is rather than blackmail the Ghostbusters to hand the
stuff over they just blackmail the Ghostbusters to operate under their
direction. Asking for the equipment
means they would have to learn how to use it. If
they get the Ghostbusters to do their dirty work for them it would be much
easier. The gangster ghosts wouldn’t even have to do
much they would just tell the Ghostbusters not to bust ghosts who are part of
their organization and it can be open season on all others. This way the Poso could force other ghosts to
pay tribute to his organization in exchange for protection.
Calm down and the slime will too, Peter! |
Now for my stray observations:
·
Why is Janine shopping on her birthday? Did she
already get her birthday cards?
·
It’s always fun to see Slimer in the Containment Unit. I like the appearance of Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and Pumpkin head (I mean Samhain.)
·
The Ghostbusters making a deal with Shifter made
for an interesting scene, so if they let him go what are the chances he may
bother someone again who calls the Ghostbusters?
·
The positive slime from Ghostbusters II, it’s good to see but shouldn’t they have Peter
wear some googles so it doesn’t get in his eyes?
·
So do the mafia ghosts have the same ranks as
they did when they were alive, is a capo still a capo?
·
Egon tricking those ghosts proves they couldn’t
handle the equipment that reinforces my point that they should have tried to get the Ghostbusters to work
at their direction.
This was episode was a good deal
of fun.
