Summary: The Ghostbusters are sitting around the station once again out of work.  There have been no calls in weeks and they are wondering how they will stay in business.  In addition to that they are sitting through a great heat wave making them very uncomfortable, and the city starts to feel a number of earthquakes which is unusual for New York.  Ray tells of an old legend known as the pillar of Manhattan: that all of Manhattan rested on a single pillar and if anything happened to it Manhattan would sink into the ocean.  The rest of them thinks that is silly and Peter tries to take a shower that ends with disaster when the shower head explodes and it starts to flood the bathroom.  After Egon takes a reading with the PKE meter they decide to explore the sewers.
This is bad.  We only have one bathroom!

In the sewers they find a group of ghosts and a strange orange gel substance leaking out of the walls, they take a sample and retreat seeing as they don’t have enough traps for all of those ghosts.  They had back to the firehouse but Ray can’t accept it.  Ray takes the Ecto-1 and heads back over with Slimer.  He heads farther and farther down.  Ray finds himself outnumber by ghosts so he sends Slimer back to get help.
Good thing Egon is the type of person who likes gross stuff.

Slimer returns to the station and seeks out Janine.  He explains to her so she can explain it to the other three.  Since Ray took the Ecto-1 the others are forced to borrow Janine’s car.  When they get there a sink hole emerges and drops them down.  Fortunately they are all right and go further down to find Ray.
You know its bad when Slimer is the only one willing to join your party.

Ray has found the pillar and was fighting for his life outnumber by many ghosts.  Good for him, his pals arrive to help him out.  Ray tells them that the orange substance is the grease of the engine.  The ghosts have been working to destroy the pillar by blocking it off.  They destroy the dam the ghosts built and save the pillar.
Yeah people are not going to be happy.

Later Peter tells Janine that they were paid by the city as a reward for stopping the earthquakes even though they didn’t believe the story about the pillar.
Ghosts trying to mess with the pillar!

My Take: Like the New York City officials I have a hard time with the whole pillar nonsense, I mean who built it.  Wasn’t legendary city of Atlantis somewhere in Europe?

                Now for my stray observations:

·         Once again the Ghostbusters are sitting around worrying about money.  They need a good accountant.
·         If there are a bunch of earthquakes going on I am not going in the sewers.
·         I really like the use of the traps.  The beakers don’t work when trying to collect a sample? No problem, just use a ghost trap!
·         Really, one bathroom for four guys and a gal?
·         So the proton packs work when completely submerged in water that is good to know.
·         I thought it was an easy win.
·         Nice pay day.  Maybe the city should just send them monthly checks to keep them a flout they’re the only ghost busting service in town, and it would justify all the pro bono work the guys are often forced to do.
·         Since Janine was happy in the end, can assume that her car is covered?
