Summary: The
episode begins with the Ghostbusters battling some ghosts in a bowling
alley. After defeating them they come
back to the firehouse and Peter gets in another fight with Slimer about him eating too much stuff. Elsewhere construction workers who are digging a
tunnel come across a door that declares it must not be opened until
Doomsday. This doesn’t stop the
dedicated construction works who outright challenge it. The door opens and all hell breaks loose on
the subway with ghosts appearing everywhere, trains coming to life and moving
on their own, and even the graffiti comes to
life.
Bad trains |
The
Ghostbusters are then called in. Ray
thinks what’s going on is exciting. The
Ghostbusters board one of the haunted trains because Egon’s PKE meter shows
what they need to find is ten miles down the track. Of course this train is packed with ghosts,
so the Ghostbusters spend most of their trip fighting them. When they arrive at the tunnel they fight one
more ghost and Winston literally trips over the answer. The stone that he tripped over has ancient
Sumerian on it that Egon can read. He
explains the door was not supposed to be open until Doomsday and since it was
opened the world may becoming to an end sooner than that.
Yup, this is getting bad. |
As they
reach their way to the Doomsday Door Egon revels that they need to go inside to
reverse the flow and shut the door. Once
that happens they will be locked inside with no way out. Energy exiting the door acts like a wind
slowing them down. Peter, who Egon held
back the fatal information because he assumed he wouldn’t want to go, actually
gives the inspiring joke about how they need to go complain about the
neighbors leaving the stereo on to loud and asks if anyone wants to join him.
(In other words he is going to stop this thing and wants the others to keep up while laughing at the danger.)
The Ghostbusters use their proton packs to cause the reversal and force the
ghosts back into the door. As the door
begins to close Ray figures out if they reverse to capture mode on their packs
they could force themselves out the door before it closes.
Last stand, for this episode. |
Back at
the firehouse Peter gets into another fight with Slimer. Egon states that it must be hard for
Slimer to be ghost living with the Ghostbusters, so later that night Peter
sneaks him a snack.
My
Take: This was a fun episode; it had great characterization, an interesting
threat, and some great ghost scenes in the subway.
Now for some of my
stray observations:
·
The ever destructive Ghostbusters. Nearly destroying an entire bowling alley to
catch a ghost. You have to wonder how
desperate some of these owners must be to call in the Ghostbusters knowing they
may lose their business for a while.
Does insurance cover this?
·
Peter angry at Slimer, who to be fair was acting
up more than usual, asking what is he good for completing forgetting the
Killerwatt episode, the Sandman, those evil Ghostbusters that Peter helped
create.
·
Ray excited by terror.
·
Winston tripping over the answer.
·
Egon knows Sumerian, of course he does. But how did the Sumerian stuff even make it
to New York?
·
I love the fact the Egon didn’t even bother to
tell the others the might not be coming back because he is afraid of Peter’s
reaction. Egon’s social skills at their
best.
·
Speaking of the movie, I wish they had caused
the door to flow by crossing the streams that would have been a good tie in.
·
Peter having a nice moment with Slimer that his
going to conveniently forget next episode.
Overall a good start to the second season.
