Summary: Peter is riding in his new car that he got from Generous Motors.  While trying to flirt with a girl his car alarm goes off.  He rushes back to the station to try and fix it, but when he gets there and gets out his car blows up.  Peter is understandably mad having just bought the car and while he is raging about the great injustice that has been placed upon him the Ghostbusters actually get a call from the President of Generous Motors.
Peter not having fun with his new car.

It turns out what happened to Peter is happening all over the country and the company president would like the Ghostbusters to help solve the problem.  This is good news because Peter is a really big Aretha Franklin fan and would like nothing more than to go to Detroit on a job from Generous Motors because they might be able to meet her.  The Ghostbusters pack their things and head off to Detroit and when they get there the company president shows them around.  All the trouble started when they opened up a wing of the plant that had not been used since World War II.
GM President wants to hire the Ghostbusters.

The reason that part of the plant was closed off is because it is stuffed full of Gremlins.  The Gremlins, running all throughout the factory, are damaging not only cars but are getting vending machines to attack people.  The team designates Winston to inspect the assembling process and he is nearly killed before the team rescues him.
Winston is not having a good time.

To solve the problem Egon and Ray design a special car that they claim was indestructible and colored pea soup green.  The Gremlins are especially attracted to it, as they surround the car to wreck it, it turns into another car.  And it does it again repeatedly.  Peter drops a giant glass jar and that contained the Gremlins’ threat.  As their reward, in addition to their pay, all four Ghostbusters got to meet the “Queen of Soul.”

My Take: The movie The Gremlins came out the same time as Ghostbusters, and the Ghostbusters outperformed the little green monsters at the box office in every area but one, New York City.  Apparently people were annoyed with traffic problems that filming the movie cost.  Either way the cartoon isn’t live action so it can’t cause motor problems, even if did in this episode it would be in Detroit.

                Now for my stray observations:

·         When negotiating the President of Generous Motors why didn’t Peter ask for a new car?  Maybe he figured he would get a new one anyway with the recalls?
·         When I was kid watching this episode I thought the Queen of Soul was a super ghost that they wanted to catch. (I didn’t remember anything else about the episode so the rest of it was new to me.)
·         I really liked the characterization between Egon and Ray the two of them are such nerds.  Always doing tech stuff and having odd opinions on things.  I like Egon expressing his excitement in pure Egon fashion.
·         I thought this was too easily resolved.  A shape shifting car?  Really? They can build one of those? Yes, I realize this is show where they catch ghosts but that struck me as so unrealistic at least fitting with the pre-established universe.  Why not just have them investigate how the auto workers of World War II managed to get them sealed off?

Either way it was a fun and entertaining episode.
