Summary: Egon and
Janine are on a date. They are wondering
around the neighborhood that Janine grew up in and Egon is doing his best to be
sociable but he is Egon. The two then come
across a carnival and they find a ride that to Egon’s horror is called the
Ecto-1. The ride is based on the Ghostbusters.
After riding it Egon is even angrier and goes to yell at the owner who
has them thrown out.

Egon
heads back to that station to tell the rest of the guys and they are mad to but
not so much to interfere with their laziness.
They choose to do nothing about it because that would be hard. However when the ride turns out to be haunted the
Ghostbusters do get the pleasure of telling the owner to buzz off.
Egon is not too happy. |
Later
Janine finds out that the lot that they were on was once the site of a circus that
brunt down and all the animals died. Thus she
thinks the ghosts of the animals are haunting the fair now. The Ghostbusters are called to the carnival by the city because the haunting is getting out of control. The ride has transformed into a brontosaurs
shaped thing and has taken hostages.

When
the Ghostbusters get there Ray tried to reason with it and gets added to the
hostages. Peter and Winston come up with
an idea to scare the haunted ride by building a big fire and appeal to the
ghost animals’ PTSD. This works and as the
ghost animals leave the ride the remaining Ghostbusters blast them. The
animal spirits surprisingly disintegrate so they don't need to be trapped. After
everyone is rescued, Peter suggests the idea of an official ride and the other
three drive off stranding him there.
Circus ghosts! |
My Take: A fun
character driven episode. It’s not the
first time some hustler had tried to make good on the Ghostbusters name. You really don’t want to make an enemy of the
Ghostbusters they have monopoly on ghost extraction. Who are you going to call?
There
is also the issue of having the ghosts of animals. Animal ghosts have been seen in this show but
they usually have something to do with a human spirit. They are either the pet, assistant, or some
cases the one holding the human ghost prisoner.
In this case the ghosts have their own story, as discovered by Janine,
the circus animals were all killed in a fire and the trauma of dying by fire
made them ghosts. Like the Murry the Mantis float coming to life because it was built in a morgue I see issues with
this. If the animals dying by burning in
their cages made them a into a team of ghosts, what about animals in slaughter houses? Shouldn’t all butcher shops be crawling with ghosts?
Now for
my stray observations:
·
I love the Egon/Janine date it was very humorous. Egon is giving a good try and Janine so
patient with him it makes me regret that this is only a children’s cartoon and
only a half hour long, because I think their relationship could be fun to explore.
·
I want to go on the Ecto-1 ride.
·
Egon’s anger about it was funny.
·
The Ghostbusters are such horrible businessmen it is no wonder almost always going under.
Someone has clearly ripped off your trademark, intellectual property,
and likeness. What is your
response? The Ghostbuster are like
“Well, we’re kind of mad, but lawyers are mean and lawsuits are hard. Let’s do nothing.” Maybe
if the con artist’s name was Charles Venkman they would have a different opinion.
·
How did the animal ghosts know how to form into
a wooden Brontosaurs? Animals learn
about dinosaurs at the circus?
·
Why did Ray tried to negotiate with animal
ghosts?
·
So animal ghosts aren’t like people ghosts in
that they don’t need to be trapped, they disintegrate on contact with particle
streams.
A great episode that made me want
to go on a roller coaster.
